Due to the critical safety issues that the damaged Dominguez Elementary School Pedestrian Overpass caused for the local community, Freyssinet USA was contacted by the Los Angeles Unified School District to examine the bridge’s condition after the accident.
The engineers at Freyssinet inspected the structure, developed, and executed a solution in order to quickly turn the bridge back to safe operating conditions, including:
- The exposed tendons were sealed, and the damage to the concrete was repaired using a high-strength concrete mix.
- New concrete brackets with high-strength post-tensioned bars were attached to the bridge.
- A new external PT tendon was added to restore the structural strength lost due to the damage in the original tendons. This new tendon was based on the Freyssinet 4C15 system.
Freyssinet achieved successful completion of this project within 4 months.
