Project Description
This new bridge replaced the original structure built in 1957, which was structurally deficient at the time of replacement. The location and surrounding environment are prone to heavy weather and frequent winter storms. Spanning over the inlet of the Chesapeake Bay, the new bridge replaced a low elevation causeway and provided an increased vertical clearance for marine traffic below.
Lesner Bridge Post-Tensioning System
Freyssinet installed an assortment of internal and external post-tensioning systems on this structure including 4-strand flat tendons (4F15), 19-strand tendons (19C15), 27-strand tendons (27C15), 1 3/8″ PT bars, and 1 3/4″ PT bars.
All embedded elements were hot-dip galvanized and all tendons were equipped with deviation systems to enhance durability. Segmental couplers were used to ensure system water-tightness.
