In 2016, the scope of work included a physical survey of the structure to determine proper methodology to remove and replace the failed 1000 ft 19-.06 strand tendon. Major activities within the scope included:
- Engineering
- Installation of (2) temporary 1000ft tendons
- Remote controlled tendon de-tensioning
- Tendon removal via hydro demolition
- Installation of strand
- Stressing and grouting of the replacement tendon
Challenges included working inside an interstate bridge structure with live traffic.
As the prime contractor, our goal was to safely and expeditiously replace the structural capacity of the failed tendon. We successfully finished this scope in February 2017.
