Freyssinet Employee Spotlight: Richard Hopkins

At Freyssinet, safety is more than a requirement—it’s a core value. Few embody that better than Richard Hopkins, known to most as Rick. Nominated by his colleagues as our employee spotlight for the quarter, he is the kind of teammate who makes work better and safer for everyone.

Role: Safety Coordinator

Office Location: Sterling, Virginia Office

For the past six years, Rick has worn many hats at Freyssinet. He works as a safety trainer, compliance expert, job hazard analyst, emergency response planner, and coordinator of site-specific safety plans on some of our biggest projects—all while also supporting our sister company Carpi Tech.

When asked about his proudest achievements, he reflects on several standouts, including the recent Carpi projects he worked on, the Pittsburgh Convention Center, and the St. Georges Bridge in Delaware. Each, he says, was successful because of coordination, teamwork, and a shared commitment to safety.

Rick has been nominated multiple times for Employee Spotlight, with coworkers noting his “uplifting spirit,” “willingness to assist,” and ability to “split himself in two for both Carpi and Freyssinet.” One nomination described him as a true go-getter: “He consistently went above and beyond his assigned tasks, even when he had a lot of work to do on the field. He is very proactive.”

Free time hobby: Cooking and baking — he loves the skill, coordination, and creativity it requires (plus, the reactions are the best when it turns out right).

One thing he can’t live without: Cheese (the stinkier, the better) and chocolate.

Recent favorite TV show: The Resident — “a fantastic show!”
If he could snap his fingers and be an expert in something: Optimism.
Dream superpower: The ability to identify what makes people happy and help them achieve it.
Proudest accomplishment outside of work: His son, Liam — “the best thing I’ve ever had the honor of helping create, mold, and mentor.”
