Freyssinet’s 30-Year Journey Featured in Apeiron Construction
This blog post shares some of the key themes and highlights from the article — but we encourage readers to explore the full feature in Apeiron Construction to experience the complete story behind Freyssinet’s journey, leadership, and landmark projects.
Building a Legacy in Infrastructure Rehabilitation and Strengthening
Founded in 1995 by Drew Micklus, Freyssinet began as CCS Special Structures. It was a small operation focused on post-tensioning and stay cable systems. Over time, the company expanded its expertise to include concrete repair, structural strengthening, and infrastructure rehabilitation for bridges, buildings, and stadiums.
Today, with more than 150 employees nationwide, Freyssinet continues to uphold its reputation for innovation, technical excellence, and an unwavering commitment to safety and collaboration. “We’ve evolved from a single-discipline company into a multi-disciplined specialty contractor,” says Micklus, now serving as Vice President. “Our goal has always been to bring smart, sustainable solutions to every project.”
A Conversation with Freyssinet’s Leaders
The Apeiron Construction feature includes insights from both Drew Micklus and Stephen Schorn, Freyssinet’s Business Development expert, who reflects on the company’s evolution and its role in advancing infrastructure rehabilitation and strengthening across the U.S.
Schorn notes that while new construction often garners the spotlight, repair and strengthening projects play a crucial role in modern infrastructure. “It’s often more cost-effective and sustainable to extend the life of existing structures,” he explains. “That’s where Freyssinet’s experience and creativity make a real difference.”
Engineering Excellence in Action
Over the past three decades, Freyssinet has contributed to some of the nation’s most recognizable and technically demanding projects, including:
-
Channel 5 Bridge Rehabilitation (Florida Keys): A $13.5 million project protecting one of Florida’s vital links with innovative cathodic protection systems and heavy lifting operations.
-
CONSOL Energy Wing Tip Bridge (West Virginia): A 786-foot pedestrian bridge that doubles as an architectural landmark.
-
Allegiant Stadium (Las Vegas, NV): One of the first cable-net roof structures in the U.S., showcasing Freyssinet’s precision engineering and collaborative approach.
These projects represent not just technical milestones, but also the teamwork, problem-solving, and safety-first mindset that define the Freyssinet culture.
Looking Ahead
As Freyssinet celebrates this milestone, the focus remains on the future—continuing to expand repair and strengthening services, exploring new stadium and bridge opportunities.
“Freyssinet’s strength lies in our people and our ability to adapt,” says Micklus. “We bring global expertise and local experience to every challenge—and that combination will continue to guide us for the next 30 years.”
