Freyssinet

At the Forefront of the Bridge Construction Industry

In 1989, Freyssinet revolutionized the industry by inventing the first individually protected multi-strand stay cable, establishing the foundation for our cutting-edge technology in cable-supported structures. Since then, this groundbreaking technique has been continuously refined and applied to over 376 projects around the globe.

In the United States, Freyssinet’s expertise can be seen in iconic structures such as the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge in Boston, the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge in Charleston, and the Ohio River Bridge – East End Crossing in Jeffersonville.

Today, Freyssinet has developed a robust stay cable ecosystem consisting of tried and tested construction and maintenance practices. Our stay cables are widely regarded as the most reliable, durable, and technically advanced systems available worldwide and represent the culmination of decades of rigorous research, testing, and development.

  • 376+
Number of structures worldwide built with Freyssinet stay cables
  • 1919ft
World record for the length of cable stays with Freyssinet technology
  • 313KSI

Invest in Sustainable Technology

Utilizing cables as tensile elements can be one of the most efficient methods to support structures and increasing their span, thus saving materials and reducing environmental footprint. They also reduce construction times. These key benefits, along with continued improvements in the technology over the past few years, are why bridge owners are so keen to use them.

With the installation in 2021 of 313 KSI stay cables on the Saemangeum bridge in South Korea, Freyssinet is showing that innovation is still part of its DNA.

Freyssinet sets the market standard in terms of fatigue resistance, corrosion protection, inspectability, and replaceability.

Sustainable technology is continually optimized in design and implementation to stay at the forefront of the market.

Ongoing development of new products and methods to enhance the integration of stay cables and ensure project success in various configurations.

Our technology meets the latest international standards and is regularly tested according to the following guidelines:

  • Fib Bulletin 89 “Acceptance of stay cable system using prestressing steel”, 2019
  • PTI DC45.1-18 “Recommendations for stay cable design, testing and installation”, 2018
  • CIP “Recommendation of French inter-ministerial commission on prestressing”, 2002

Effective solutions developed through a globally networked team of specialists.

Stay cable systems are designed and manufactured under complete control.

We provide proactive assistance during the warranty and post-warranty periods, leveraging:

  • The strength of the Freyssinet network
  • Technologies and tools that enable our partners to monitor performance and conduct preventive maintenance, which are crucial for the longevity of both the products and the structures.

Cable System Solutions

Strand Solutions

Strands are the primary components of the Freyssinet Parallel Strand System (PSS) cables and are commonly referred to as the main tensile elements. These modular components enable the creation of cables of any size by bundling together lightweight yet durable elements. Freyssinet has developed two technologies, known as Monostrand® and Cohestrand®, which set the standard for the construction of cable structures.
  • High corrosion protection
  • Optimized design
  • Easy maintenance

Anchorage Solutions

Anchorages are engineered by Freyssinet internal design team to extend the life of stay cables. They are also manufactured in-house to ensure the highest level of manufacturing control. Our modular solutions cover all needs from short cable hangers using clevis up to very long span cables.
  • Proven reliability on the largest structures
  • Waterproofing at cable ends
  • Strand-by-strand installation

Damper Solutions

Dampers are mechanical assemblies installed on stay cables to help absorb and dissipate energy imposed on the structure by wind, rain, traffic, and other sources. Dampers are necessary on long cables to maximize the durability of the structure. Freyssinet offers different damper types to accommodate structural needs and constraints.
  • Custom models and versatility
  • Proven track-record
  • Durability and low maintenance

Cable Protection Solutions

In addition to the risks involved in constructing a bridge, owners must also consider potential hazards throughout the bridge's lifespan, including fire, lightning, explosions, and ice formation on cables. Freyssinet has developed specific solutions for those who want to better manage these risks and minimize or prevent bridge closures, thereby protecting the local economy.
  • Fully tested solutions, developed in-house
  • Designed to be easily replaced
  • A solution for each project

Aesthetic Enhancement Solutions

Cable-stayed bridges are elegant and robust structures that can serve as iconic architectural landmarks. To enhance their aesthetics, we have developed colored ducts and lighting systems. These solutions combine functionality, aesthetics, and mechanical performance, and can be customized to meet your specific bridge requirements.
  • Fully customizable
  • Highly durable
  • Functional and aesthetically pleasing

Suspension Cable Solutions

The parallel strand system developed by Freyssinet, renowned for its work with cable-stayed and extradosed bridges, offers significant advantages in terms of durability for suspension bridges and cabled stadium roofs.
