Freyssinet has been entrusted with the ongoing structural integrity of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, one of the longest cable-stayed bridges in the Western Hemisphere, since its opening in July 2005.

Spanning 13,200 feet across the Cooper River, this South Carolina icon connects Charleston to Mount Pleasant and carries thousands of vehicles daily.

Freyssinet's Scope of Work

Arthur Ravanel Stay Cable Inspection and Maintenance

As the original designer and installer of the bridge’s stay cable and damping systems, Freyssinet was selected to perform annual stay cable inspection and maintenance.

Our scope includes:

  1. External and internal anchorage inspections at deck and pylons
  2. Cross-tie collar and stay pipe inspections, including full-length rope access
  3. Internal damper inspections
  4. Field sample testing for material performance
  5. Routine maintenance and replacement of worn parts
  6. Inspection software integration for streamlined documentation and analysis

Freyssinet also authored the Stay Cable Inspection and Maintenance Manual adopted by the South Carolina Department of Transportation, ensuring consistent, high-quality procedures across inspection cycles.
